Las Palmas
Million-dollar valley views, upscale terrace dining, and the road to the airport — Medellín's hillside escape above the clouds.
Above It All
Las Palmas is the road that climbs east from El Poblado toward Rionegro and the international airport (MDE). Named for the palm trees that once lined the original colonial road, this hillside corridor has become Medellín's most exclusive address — a string of upscale restaurants, luxury shopping, and residential towers perched on the ridge with million-dollar views of the entire valley.
The draw here is the view. At 1,800-2,000m elevation, Las Palmas restaurants sit above the city's cloud layer on clear mornings, with terraces that overlook the entire Aburrá Valley from north to south. Come at sunset when the city lights begin to flicker on below — it's one of the most dramatic urban panoramas in South America.
The anchor is El Tesoro, Medellín's most upscale shopping mall, built into the hillside with panoramic valley views from its food court. Beyond that, the road continues to the airport, passing miradores (viewpoints), restaurants with terraces, and some of the most expensive real estate in Colombia. This is not a walking neighborhood — you'll need a car or Uber to experience it properly.

Local Knowledge
Named After Palm Trees
The original colonial road was lined with palm trees. The name stuck even as the palms gave way to restaurants and luxury apartments. A few still survive near the older miradores.
The Airport Road
Las Palmas is the main road to José María Córdova International Airport (MDE). Every taxi ride from the airport passes through here — a 40-minute winding ascent with increasingly dramatic views.
Sunset Is Magic
The west-facing ridge means every restaurant terrace catches the sunset. Around 5:30-6:30 PM the entire valley turns gold, then pink, then purple. Arrive early for the best table.
Car Required
Unlike El Poblado or Laureles, Las Palmas is not walkable. It's a road, not a neighborhood. You'll need Uber or a car to restaurant-hop. Factor in COP $8,000-15,000 per Uber ride.
El Tesoro Mall
Medellín's most upscale shopping center, built into the hillside with valley views from the food court. Zara, Apple Store, cinema, and every Colombian brand. Free parking.
Cooler Than the City
At 2,000m elevation, Las Palmas is 3-5°C cooler than the valley floor. Bring a light jacket for evening dining on the terraces. The mountain breeze is part of the experience.
Best Restaurants

San Carbon
The crown jewel of Las Palmas dining. Open-fire grill with premium Colombian cuts, aged meats, and a terrace overlooking the entire Medellín valley. Reserve a window table for sunset — it's one of the best views in the city.

Nuquo
Modern Colombian cuisine with a view. Chef-driven tasting plates that reimagine traditional ingredients — think chicharrón foam and arepa crisps. The terrace at sunset is the reason people come here.

Il Forno
Authentic wood-fired Italian on the Las Palmas corridor. Thin-crust pizzas from a imported brick oven, handmade pastas, and a solid wine list. The outdoor terrace catches the mountain breeze.

El Rancherito Las Palmas
The Las Palmas outpost of the beloved Colombian grill chain. Same enormous portions of churrasco, bandeja paisa, and grilled meats — but with a view. Popular with families on weekend lunch outings.

El Tesoro Café
Inside the El Tesoro shopping mall — Medellín's most upscale retail destination. Great for a coffee break or brunch between shopping. The balcony seating has panoramic valley views that most malls can only dream of.

Mirador de Las Palmas
Restaurant and viewpoint combined. Come for the panoramic photo of the entire Aburrá Valley, stay for the traditional Colombian food. The empanadas and aguapanela are the perfect companion to the million-dollar view.

Very Safe
Las Palmas is one of the safest areas in the metro — it's a main road with constant traffic, upscale establishments, and security at malls and restaurants. The main concern is driving: the road is winding and can be foggy at night.
Uber / Car Only
You need a car or Uber — Las Palmas is a road, not a walkable neighborhood. Uber from El Poblado COP $8,000–$15,000. Airport (MDE) 40 min via this road, COP $70,000–$90,000. No Metro access. Parking available at all restaurants and El Tesoro mall.
